Now that I've culled back the fleet to one reliable car, one German car with a full warranty, and only one maintenance whore that I don't actually need to drive, it's fun again.
So for you, if all you've really been enjoying lately is taking the Rover out or going for a ride on the bike, then liquidate the rest of your crap and make your daily driver s something with a warranty and a solid reliability rating.
That first paragraph is exactly on the money. I think I won't mind wrenching on the Rover since it doesn't matter whether or not it's on the road.

The idea that I can take 4 weeks to do a simple repair without it making a difference to anything is very liberating. In fact, I'm in the middle of replacing a CV joint, front diff, transfer case, brakes, and various seals. It's been enjoyable not having the stress of staying up until am trying to fix it so I can get to work the next day.
But there's also that lingering stress that if something goes wrong with the E38 all the sudden, I am taking up my work room with the Rover and won't have a choice but to take it into the shop.
I think that's what I should do, but I also am bummed to spend much money on something I don't really love. The E38 still just feels so special when I walk up to it, which is why I also toss around the idea of just putting a bunch of money aside and buying a super cheap daily like an E46 and keeping a healthy maintenance reserve for it, but then I'd really be taking big steps away from what I want.
So we'll see what happens, it just is an unexpected feeling for me.
